
Choosing between a brushless DC (BLDC) motor and an AC induction motor is one of the first decisions in any drive system design, and it shapes everything downstream — controller complexity, efficiency, maintenance schedule, and cost.
BLDC motors generally deliver higher efficiency and power density because they eliminate brush friction and rotor copper losses. They also offer precise speed and torque control, which makes them the default choice for applications like robotics, precision spindles, and compact high-RPM systems.
AC induction motors remain the workhorse of heavy industry for good reason: they're rugged, tolerant of harsh electrical environments, and simpler to maintain at scale. For continuous-duty pumps, fans, and conveyor drives, an induction motor is often the more cost-effective and field-serviceable choice.
